Welcome

Welcome to the Immortal blog. You either landed here because you read my book, because a friend sent you, or by random chance. If either of those last two, please run out and buy the book, because this will all make more sense. The book, How to be Fit, Trim and Possibly IMMORTAL, will be referred to here as FTI, in order to save my typing fingers.

Regardless of how you got here, welcome to the dawn of a new era and a new understanding of what makes humans healthy and what things we can do to maintain a high quality of life for the longest possible time. Physical immortality may be a bit of a pipe dream, but as Robert Browning wrote, “a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for.”

By reaching for immortality, we break the ties that bind us to our acceptance of death and its many causes. While I don’t have a suggestion for surviving traumatic injuries, I do believe that ALL of the killer diseases can and will be overcome and soon.

We won’t cure them all today, but maybe tomorrow…

Or maybe there are things we can do today that will dramatically decrease the likelihood of premature death from, oh say: Cancer, Heart Disease, ALS, MS, Type 2 Diabetes and Lupus, as well as reducing the impact of troubling conditions like: Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, IBD, Crohn’s Disease, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, gluten and dairy sensitivities…

And more!

Health is to illness as light is to darkness — they cannot coexist. So rather than looking to “cure,” each illness in turn, I’m going to show you how to be healthier. And once you’re healthy enough, illness will be unable to find you.

Over the years, average lifespan has increased dramatically, but the numbers are deceptive. If you follow the lives of 100 people, you will see how this plays out. If they all live to be 70, then that’s the average. But if five die in childbirth, the average drops to 66.5. Now if five more (probably males) take themselves out of the equation by riding motorcycles recklessly, driving too fast or under the influence, somewhere in their teens or early twenties, suddenly the average is down to around 64. The one guy who dies at 68 gets lost in a rounding error. Much of the gain in average life expectancy is the result of advancements in medicine and medical practice that have made a major dent in infant deaths. It takes a dozen centenarians to offset the effect of three stillborn babies on that average number.

Since the current projection (USA) is 76 for men and 81 for women (primarily because they’re smarter than their male counterparts and therefore more risk averse) it should be obvious that some of us will be getting to 100 or more in order to make up for those who leave early. In fact, your odds change in your favor as you age. Without bothering to adjust for health status and history, my odds of reaching 90 (less than twenty years hence) are actually quite good, about 40%. I think it’s safe to assume, that owing to excellent health and some pretty good health practices, I should do much better than that, assuming I don’t play in traffic. As I age, I’ll be driving less and in general, side stepping a lot of the risks I took when I was younger. Having survived those, my odds of making 100 are looking pretty darn good just now.

FTI contains a lot of action items to strengthen your body and your immune system. My research is ongoing, so I decided to publish what I had and start working on my next book, as well as offering updates here on the blog. I’m pretty undisciplined in some ways, so I won’t promise a new post at regular intervals. I’ll post when I have something of value to share. If you sign up for my newsletter, I’ll alert you to new posts and new videos. The still pictures in the book can’t show my exercises nearly as well as a video. I’ll be posting videos and I might even talk during some of them, but I promise to be brief. My pet peeve is the site that sends me email that is ten pages long or a video link where it takes 45 minutes to get to the point. I have no tolerance for that and I won’t treat you that way. My stuff will be no longer than necessary. That’s a promise. I’ll also remain silent if I have nothing of substance to share.

How to be Fit, Trim, and Possibly Immortal was envisioned as part one in a continuing series of books designed to help you live longer and better. The book wasn’t finished; I simply chose to publish what I had and continue on to produce volume 2, 3, and so on. Along the way, covid interjected itself and drew my attention to institutional lying, our “betters,” deciding that we can’t handle the truth, that we’re too stupid to make the right decisions. More importantly, if we knew the whole truth, we’d throttle the processed food, and pharmaceutical industries, cutting off massive cash flows from advertisers and lobbyists. How is a Senator going to afford a yacht and a vacation home in the Hamptons (or Chappaqua) if they can’t get goodies from lobbyists and use insider knowledge in managing their portfolios.

Consequently, I began compiling pages for a book exclusively covering political and institutional corruption, working title, The Diogenes Project; One Man’s Search for Truth. Naturally enough, it became clear that systemic dishonesty was deeply intertwined with our health. The business of anti-health products, like artificial nonfood foods, medicines with cures that are worse than the diseases, and the political manipulation of healthcare and international affairs has significant repercussions for health and longevity.

Our elected officials lie to us daily, and most of us know this. Looking closely at everything we are told, by politicians, advertisers and media, can start us on a path to a better world. Getting recognition for the fact that the founders of our country never intended for political office to be a gateway to affluence, but that it should rather be a vocation whereby successful people could give back to the country, should become our divining rod for selecting candidates and our motivation for demanding term limits as well as perhaps raising the minimum age and other requirements for public office. What sense does it make to send a nascent college graduate, a person who has not yet learned how life works outside of academia, to make decisions affecting the fate of our nation, or to allow 18-year-olds with zero life experience to vote?

My blog has morphed into a platform for both the Fit, Trim and Immortal series and the Diogenes book, as well as a means to more rapidly disseminate information, not waiting a year or more to get it collected, edited and published. I do my best to be apolitical while pointing out the disastrous foibles of our ruling class, because I truly believe that the corruption inherent in the process has given us two horrifically flawed political parties, such that selecting the lesser of the two evils simply means only a slight delay in the impending downfall of our nation.

The issue for me is not whether Trump or Biden is or was more damaging to our nation and our society; my concern is twofold: How did we bring ourselves to a state of consciousness where either man was considered a viable option, and how do we fix it? How do we engender honesty and encourage intelligent and moral people to strive for political leadership? Our failure in this area and the resultant systemic corruption presents a much greater danger to our nation than nuclear war.
